Beca’s p. o. v
I closed the fridge and touched his cheek gently.
“Cobi what’s wrong?” I asked in concern.
He didn’t have to say a thing because I could feel that something was bothering him.
“Nothing.” He answered.
“Hey, what’s wrong.” I asked again and this time I saw his expression soften.
“It’s just that we have a prisoner in the dungeon and he’s the alpha’s …..”
“You sure have guts, deliberately ignoring my direct orders. Do you have a death wish?” A deep, cold voice that held power and dominance asked from behind as I flinched.
I grew up in a pack full of higher ranks. I knew how the alpha acted towards the low ranks.
And the only person who could talk freely and order around a beta was only the Alpha. The man in front of us was the alpha of the pack, despite being Cobi’s mate I wasn’t worthy to talk to him nor look at him.
Cobi turned to face him while I chose to keep my gaze fixed on the ground.
“I’m sorry alpha.” He answered in a low tone.
The man took a few steps then stood a few meters away from us.
“Look up.” He ordered.
“Alpha what are you doing?” Cobi asked loudly.
“She’s your mate right?” He asked seriously.
“Yes.” Cobi wasted no time in answering.
“That’s all I needed to know.” He said.
“Hey, I said look up.” He repeated, this time with emphasis.
I quickly looked up and met his eyes in fear.
I widened my eyes in shock then gasped loudly.
Alpha Jason!. How could he be here as alpha of the pack when he was running our pack as alpha as well.
“As I had suspected. I remember meeting her at night in my other pack. Do you remember?” He asked as I nodded.
“What’s was your name again?” He asked with a forced smile.
“Beca,” I answered in a whisper.
“Beca, you must be surprised to see me here right. I understand, I too I’m surprised to see you here. Listen, can you do me a favor and not tell anyone about me running two packs, please.” He said softly.
“Sure thing alpha, I won’t tell a soul.” I answered.
“Good. Cobi, may I have a word with you in my office privately?” He asked then turned.
“Yes alpha.” He answered as the Alpha walked away.
“Beca, please wait here and don’t go anywhere. I will be right back in a few minutes.” He said softly then turned and followed.
Once I was sure he wasn’t anywhere near, I rushed out of the kitchen and ran outside.
No matter how I looked at it or how identical they were, that man wasn’t alpha Jason!. It made no sense that he couldn’t remember my name or remember how upset he was at me. He went crazy as well looking for Emily, he wasn’t this calm at all. And his beta was Cobi! Why, what happened to Ken!. He wasn’t alpha Jason, he wasn’t.
I stood still when a hand grabbed my wrist.
“And where do you think you are going?” A man’s voice asked from behind.
I turned and faced the tall guy in fear.
“I … I was going for a run. My wolf and I want that.” I lied.
“You aren’t allowed to go beyond the pack’s border, if you want to have a run, I will gladly go with you to the training field. It’s wide and full of trees.” He answered while tightening his grip on me.
“Thank you, but I’m okay going alone.” I answered as I swallowed hard.
“Just come with me.” He spat.
“No,” I answered loudly surprising him.
“I said….”
“Let her go.” A familiar, female voice ordered.
I looked ahead and held in my breath for a second.
“Luna.” I whispered.
The man quickly let go of my hand and gave a slight bow before leaving.
“Are you okay?” She asked with a smile.
“Yes, I am, thanks for helping me out.” I answered when she moved closer.
“Call me Emily.” She said softly.
“I’m Beca,” I answered then frowned.
Wait. What was she doing here?.
“I’m glad to see a familiar face here. Is Rhoyda coming as well?. What about Ken?. I know that you are very close with him.” She said confusing me.
“Luna wait a second. I’m sorry to ask this but what are you doing here?” I asked.
“Well, this is where my mate Jason is.” She answered shocking me.
No way, now I was convinced that that alpha wasn’t alpha Jason. How could he go crazy over Emily’s disappearance when he knew exactly where she was!
“I don’t know what you mean Luna, but that man you are calling Jason isn’t the alpha I have known and served.” I answered seriously.
She gazed at me coldly then folded her arms.
“What exactly are you saying?” She asked with a glare.
“I’m saying that, that man in there, the alpha of this pack isn’t alpha Jason. They sure do look exactly the same but he isn’t.” I answered seriously.
“Of course I know it isn’t Jason, that is Cole, his wolf.” She answered shocking me even more.
“Luna, that’s not his wolf!. When an Alpha’s wolf takes over, his eyes turn a shade of red and stay that way until the wolf steps down. That man’s eye color isn’t red at all, which means he’s fully in control of himself, not his wolf.” I pointed out.
She frowned then dropped her hands.
“Ar.. e. are you saying that, that man in there isn’t Jason?” She asked in a cracked voice.
“Exactly, that’s why I want to run away and go back to my pack. Whoever that man is, he isn’t my alpha. And so you know, alpha Jason has great respect for Ken, there is just no way he would leave him and pick another beta. Before I ran away from my pack, alpha Jason was going insane looking for you. You had disappeared from his bed without a trace. He kept on yelling, “He took her.” Only a few people heard about it and were soon silenced by Ken. As far as I know Luna. You are missing from our pack and our warriors are searching for you without rest.” I said as her face turned pale.
