Chapter 70

Chris responded to his greeting with a curt nod. Neither Emily nor Jonas noticed his grim expression. Emily bent low to assist Jonas in collecting and rearranging the papers scattered everywhere.
“I should be the one apologizing. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to stand in front of the elevator,” Jonas gave Emily a sweet smile after hearing her words and Chris’ eyes narrowed.
Yep! He should definitely warn Ryan about this. Emily was startled when she was suddenly pulled up. “Did I forget to mention earlier that Ryan has been awaiting your arrival?” He mentioned, casting a casual glance at Jonas.
He was trying to gauge the guy’s reaction and trying to confirm if his suspicions are correct. Jonas surely didn’t disappoint because Chris noticed and noted how his hands clenched tightly while holding the files.
Chris’ eyes narrowed when he saw the not-so-pleased expression on Jonas’s face. Without another word, he turned around and pulled Emily away.
“But… Sir,” Emily tried to protest when she saw that he was pulling her to the elevator. That lady had strictly warned her that it belonged to the boss.
“Not sir… I told you to call me cousin or cousin-in-law,” Chris’s tone sounded like he was scolding her and she had no idea why. Why did he sound irked or annoyed?
“Uhmm… Cousin-in-law, I heard you sir but I want to assist Jonas in rearranging those files since I am the reason why they got scattered in the first place.”
Chris squinted his eyes at her. She hates to admit it but she felt a little bit fearful to have someone looking at her like that.
“Ryan mentioned that I should bring you to him immediately. I set my eyes on you,” Emily was dumbfounded. But she still tried to protest, “Bo… Cousin-in-law, shouldn’t I use the employee’s elevator instead? I have been told that this elevator belongs to the bosses only.”
“Well, you are literally one of us now so no one dares to stop you from using our elevator,” Emily was speechless. Why does it feel to her like Chris and Ryan behave similarly shamelessly!?

The ding sounds the elevator made shook Emily out of her thoughts. Chris led her down the hallway and they stopped in front of a room door.
She raised her hand to knock but Chris already barged in, taking her along. Ryan was in front of his computer when they walked.
He appears to be oblivious to their presence because his head was bent low as he continuously typed away on the keyboard.
“Cousin… Look, who’s here?” Chris called his attention. Ryan looked up and his eyes landed on Emily. His eyes shook as he stopped typing.
“I thought you were going to stay at home and recuperate. Why are you here?” Ryan queried as he pulled her closer to him and glared at Chris cause he’d noticed their linked hands.
Chris almost chuckled. ‘Cousin, you don’t know the real rival you should be glaring at. Do you know anyone by the name of Jonas? I assure you… He’s got his eyes on his cousin-in-law and she doesn’t even know. You’d better hold her tight,’ he brought out his phone to type this message and send it to Ryan.
Ryan felt his phone vibrate in his pants but he ignored it. He already knows who the message is from. “I remember that j disagreed with someone’s suggestion that I should stay at home,” Emily retorted as she tried to wriggle her wrist from his hands.
But his grip only tightened. Chris cleared his throat with a loud cough and turned to walk away since he’s clearly been neglected by the couple. But just as he reached the door, he reminded Ryan, “Don’t forget that the meeting is in twenty minutes. The representative should be here by ten minutes from now.”
“Ask them to cross-check everything again and make sure everything is in order. I can’t afford to lose this cooperation to Wilson,” his tone sounded firm as he walked back to his seat and pulled Emily along.
She didn’t appreciate this gesture but didn’t protest either. “Okay,” Chris nodded before walking out of the room, closing the door gently behind him.
“What are you…?,” Emily suddenly shrieked as Ryan sat on his seat and pulled her to sit on his lap. He circled his hands around her and inched closer to the desk so his fingers could reach the keyboard with Emily still in his arms.
Emily wrapped her hands around his neck to stable herself, her eyes stuck to the computer screen. She read the first part of what was displayed on the screen and soon understood that it was something related to a contract.
“I missed you,” Ryan nuzzled into her, his nose brushing against her neck. This felt oddly comfortable to Emily. She chuckled and put on a fake irritated look, “I thought you were having fun in the beautiful city of sin with Singapore beauties.”
Ryan looked at them with an aggrieved expression like the one Scott is fond of displaying. “Do you still remember his nonsense? Singapore is not a city of sin and I didn’t even look at any beauty. None of them was even as beautiful as my girlfriend.”
Emily blushed. She didn’t know what to say. In fact, she didn’t understand what was going on. She felt like she’d taken this relationship thing too far.
I mean Ryan had admitted to proclaiming her as his girlfriend so as to get Eva off his back but now that he’s acting like this… Like the relationship is real and she is also getting too immersed in this roleplay.
It’s scaring her. She was startled when Ryan suddenly groaned. She looked at him worriedly and saw the scowl on his face. “Don’t start with this again,” His words confused her.
“With what?” The confusion was written all over her face. Ryan almost groaned again. “Why do you keep on worrying about things that aren’t worth it? You are my girlfriend okay? As your boyfriend, I should do my best to provide all the love and care for my…”
“So you do admit it… You’ve fallen for me,” Emily’s face inched dangerously close to his. A teasing smile danced on her lips.
