Chapter 48

Book:TWO-SIDED ALPHA Published:2024-6-2

“Sis… I swear I am not lying. You were mentioning him over and over again in your sleep. It even sounded like you were moaning,” Lena pulled her ears a little to indicate that she really wasn’t lying but Emily chose to ignore her and focus on the laundry she was taking out of the washing machine.
“Sis… Tell me. Who is Ryan? And what kind of dirty dream were you having about him that caused you to moan like that in your sleep? It was gross hearing your bedroom voice but it was even more amusing that the name you kept on mentioning was Ryan, not Steve,” Lena chattered endlessly, refusing to let the matter go even though she knew that Emily ignoring her showed that she didn’t want to talk about it.
“Sis… What is going on that I don’t know? When did you even start hiding things from me?” Emily slammed the washing machine door shut loudly to show how irritated she was.
“Seems like I have to stop you from sleeping over in my room from today onwards,” Emily grumbled as she moved around quickly to hide the pink colour in her cheeks.
Of all nights, Lena chose to sleep with her yesterday and she ended up having a wet dream about the jerk. She couldn’t understand why she would have that sort of dream about him considering the way she has been acting toward him throughout the week.
Emily spread one wet cloth and her fingers suddenly stopped as she was reaching out for a peg. A memory of one of the scenes in her dream suddenly flashed in her head and she froze.
In that erotic dreams of hers, she had clearly seen a wolf… A big black wolf that looked like a baddie. He or she didn’t look like the normal wolves TV usually displays on animal networks nor did it look like the ones she had seen before.
Shit! The wolf was standing on its two hind legs. It wasn’t on all fours like other wolves and it even seemed like… He was looking at her. Like he could see her. Like he was smiling at her.
“Emily,” Lena’s voice and her hands shook her out of her thoughts. The basket of pegs fell down from her hand and she gasped. Odd enough, she actually didn’t feel terrified by the memory.
She only gasped on instinct. “Emily, are you alright? You just suddenly spaced out,” The worry in Lena’s eyes was more than enough. She shook her head sideways. She must have imagined it.
There is no way such a wolf would exist in this world. Wolves like that don’t even exist! “I’m fine. I only felt a little bit dehydrated,” Emily replied quickly, bending down to pick up the basket of pegs and place back the ones that had fallen out of it.
Lena looked at her suspiciously but didn’t probe any further. “Sis, you still haven’t told me about this mysterious Ryan you were moaning for,” She tried to change the subject instead and it worked.
Emily blushed fiercely and stood up to spread the clothes. The sooner she spreads them, the faster she can get out of here. Why is this little brat such a chatterbox? Can’t she let go of things?
“Shut up. Don’t you have work to do? Why didn’t you follow mom to work today?”
“I’ve got a project to submit on Monday so I can’t go anywhere now. I have to finish my assignment first,” Lena explained.
“Good. Then go and do your assignment. Stop asking about what you are not supposed to know about,” Emily shooed her out of the room.
Lena pouted sadly but she couldn’t protest. She needed to finish the work given to her by that grumpy instructor but that doesn’t mean she has forgotten Ryan and the moaning sounds.
She’ll surely find a way to get the answer out of Emily soon. Emily breathed in relief when the door squeaked. She was spreading the last cloth when her phone made a loud sound of an incoming message alert.
She pegged the cloth quickly and rushed to the phone, partially expecting the message to her from Steve. He hasn’t sent any message in a while now and she didn’t really know what was wrong.
But instead, her phone displayed only an unsaved number. She clicked on it and read the message. Just a short sentence, “Hey… How are you?”
She paused and stared at the phone screen for a few minutes wondering why she didn’t install one of those apps as Lena did. You know… Those apps would display the names of unsaved numbers as long as it’s registered with Gmail.
But she responded anyway, “I’m fine. Thank you.’ She only had to wait for half a second for the message to be marked as read. But the reply was not forthcoming even after several minutes had passed.
She blinked her eyes repeatedly at this. Huh? Why didn’t he or she respond? ‘Who are you?’ since the sender isn’t willing to take the next initiative, she would send a message instead.
The message got a green tick instantly showing read as if he/she had been staring at the screen all this while she was waiting. But thankfully, the reply didn’t take long, “Your hubby.”
Emily blinked her eyes at this answer too. Huh? Hubby? Then she remembered that Steve had once called her wifey so it must be him.
‘Oh jeez! You really scared me. I was a little bit worried sick about you. Where were you and why didn’t you send me any message Steve?’ she typed back instantly when she came to a conclusion.
Ryan on the other hand was stunned. He actually smiled when he was reading the first part of the message but when he read the last word, his face darkened. Steve??? Who is Steve!?
‘Wifey, are you cheating on me? Who is Steve?’ he sent back immediately. Scott looked at him curiously wondering why he suddenly looked so upset.
Emily grew puzzled when she read his message. Her confusion didn’t last long though cause her phone immediately displayed a video call. Ryan had angrily tapped on the video call icon.
He is only gone for a day and she already has one STEVE somewhere!
