We reached the railway station soon. Xuanlong said, “I’ll park the car now, and then I’ll go to Yang City with you.” I didn’t think it was necessary but he insisted. He said, “I promised Leon to protect you, and I’ll keep my promise.”
I checked the time and we needed to wait for another hour and a half, which was a very long time to wait.
Then my phone rang and it was Jiye. I walked aside and picked up the phone.
“I heard that Chenlei Hua was arrested. He has a lot of evidence of our cooperation with him. I want you to meet him, and ask him not to give the evidence to police, or we will be adversely affected.” Jiye’s voice was urgent.
“What did you do with Chenlei Hua? Why are you so worried?” I asked him impatiently.
“You don’t need to know that. You just need to know that if he rats on us, we will be doomed, and we may even need to take criminal responsibility. If that is the case, we will never get Hua’s Group. It is a crucial time and we can not allow that to happen. Now you need to try to meet Chenlei and ask him to keep the secrets, and then we will try to bring him out of the prison.”
“I don’t want to get myself involved in your business. The only thing you care about is money and you can do anything for money. I despise you.” I shouted.
“Nan Su, please help Su Family. We had a very good plan but Leon still found some evidence, and Chenlei was arrested because of Leon. And we will be in a bigger trouble if Chenlei gives in to pressure.”
“So in your opinion, I’m only something you can use, right? You are happy that I’m still alive only because I’m useful to you, right?”
I was very upset. I didn’t know who else could I trust in this world.
“Nan Su, please don’t say that. That is so unfair. It’s not like what you thought. I did everything for you and Su Family.”
“Enough! I am tired of your nonsense. You always have an excuse for what you did. I tell you, I will not help you. You should solve the problem yourself.”
I hanged up the phone. Jiye called again but I didn’t answer.
I was so angry that I wanted to throw away my phone. Xuanlong didn’t even ask me what was the matter. He just stood away and looked at me.
A few minutes later, Wenbei called me.
He sounded very tired. “Litter sister. I know what our father did upsets you. To be honest, I don’t approve of his behavior neither. But he is our father and we must help him. Do you want to see our father or Su Family in trouble? Please help him.”
Tears brimmed in my eyes all of a sudden. I felt so sad and I just wanted to cry.
“Little sister, are you alright?” Second Brother sensed my emotion.
“Second Brother. Leon knew my identity all along, but he never told me. He lied to me. I quarreled with him and I never want to forgive him. I want Leon to give my kid back to me and now you want me to beg Leon. How could you do this to me!”
“Leon couldn’t know you are Nan Su. You two just look alike and I wasn’t even sure about that and how could he know? I think you are thinking too much. You should find Leon and tell him that we should let go of the past enmity. We will coexist peacefully in the future and we will never try to gobble each other up. I know you are feeling angry and bitter, but there are some times when we have to do what we hate. When this is done, I’ll never let you participate in the business of the family ever again. You can enjoy your life and you won’t have to worry about any of that. ”
We talked for half an hour. Second Brother was very comforting and I felt much better after talking with him.
I decided not to go to Yang City at last. I am going to see Leon. I am a member of Su Family, and I decided to help them one last time to repay everything they did for me.
“Call Leon, and ask him where he is. I need to find him.” I said to Xuanlong.
Xuanlong looked at me, and nodded silently. Then he called Leon in front of me.
Then he told me Leon was busy with something and asked me to wait for him at home.
Leon refused to see me right away. I wasn’t sure whether that was because I was being too mean to him earlier. There was nothing I could do if that was the case, because I had to see him after being mean to him.
Jiye wanted me to convince Chenlei not to give police the information that would affect Su Family adversely. But there was no way I could do that. I couldn’t even meet Chenlei if Leon didn’t want me to, because that was Hai City.
I went back to Maple Villa, got upstairs, and lied on my bed, feeling grumpy.
Jiye called me soon and asked whether I had finished the mission he gave me.
“How can I do it for you if you don’t even tell me the truth? What did you do with Chenlei Hua?” I asked angrily.
“We’ve been supporting Chenlei secretly all these years. So we are related to many of the things he did. That’s why we couldn’t let him tell the police everything.”
“Are you behind his illegal activities?”
“I’m only behind some of his illegal activities. And it was my idea to kill the oldest son of Su Family.”
I was shocked when I heard it. I had always thought that Chenlei was the psycho who wanted to kill his own brother, and I never thought it was Jiye’s idea.
“How could you do that? How can you make him kill people? When it comes to money, do you even have a bottom line?” I asked angrily.
“It was not like that. He had the thought and I encouraged him. He didn’t have helpers and I found some people to help him. If he sell these people out, I would be damned. So you must help me.” Jiye said.
I was speechless. He was the accomplice. If he was found out, he would go to prison.
