“And there is another problem. How will him deal with Feng Family? Can he kill all the people of Feng Family who could be the chairman?”
Thinking of that, Chenlei Hua’s way to be promoted was rather rough.
“Feng Family would never support him to be the chairman. He never got involved in group’s affairs before. How could the directors of Feng Family agree him to be the chairman?” Said Leon.
“As you analysed, we could not think out the way he could be promoted. But he is a man with plan in his mind. He would not do it if he was not sure about it. He is a goal-oriented guy.”
“But we couldn’t cope with him if we don’t know what he is going to do. We could handle him only if we know him better.”
“Forget it. Let’s sleep first. Let’s think about it tomorrow. After all, we have plenty of time.” I proposed.
“Sure, let’s sleep.”
There was no bed in the room. We could only sleep in each other’s arms on the ground. Actually neither of us could fall asleep, but we didn’t talk to make another person could sleep well.
I was fatigue and Leon made me feel safe because he was with me. Unexpectedly I fell asleep.
I found Leon was holding me tightly when I woke up at night. He tried to be close with me to warm me with his body, he was afraid I might get a cold.
I dared not to move because I was afraid Leon would wake up. I fell asleep a while later.
I never expected I would sleep so sound on the ground without a quilt. It was the best sleep I had recently.
There was a bathroom in the room. And everything needed was there. After washing, I felt hungry, it was time to take breakfast in peacetime.
But there was no breakfast here. Someone gave us something at almost ten. It was an egg. Chenlei said before that Leon never experienced rough time so that he shall know what was hunger now. So he would only offer an egg to us for two days.
So the egg in front of us now was not for brunch, neither for today. But the food for today and tomorrow for the two of us.
“What are you looking? Enjoy it, I’m not hungry.” Leon said with forced lightness.
Of course I knew how precious the egg was. So I would not take it so easily. So I shook my head and said “You take it, I’m not hungry and I don’t like eggs.”
“You are being silly again? You have to take something in the morning. You are worried second brother will only give us only an egg for two days? He will not. You forgot last night he said he would give us poison? It was just vitamin pill. So you take it first, he will offer us other food.”
I knew Leon wanted me to take the egg by lying to me. As long as I took the egg and had some water, I would be alive within two days.
But I would not bite his bait. I would share happiness and suffering with him. How could I take our food for two days alone?
“I don’t want to eat it. You hate it the most. Take it. I want to have other food when the lunch come.” I used the same lie to Leon.
“I don’t want it, either. Ok, as neither of us wants it. Then leave it. Let’s have some water.”
There was an automatic cleaning system in White House. All water here could be drunk directly after cleaning. We had some water with our gargles. We drunk water whenever we felt hungry.
No lunch came at noon. Chenlei said he would only offer us an egg for two days was not kidding.
You could hardly feel its horror when you never experienced hunger. When time came to four or five in the afternoon, we heard the stomach growling of each other. And we haven’t take our only egg.
I was little bit anxious so that I kept walking around in the room. I felt panic because of hunger. I didn’t know how long could I insist. If as what Chenlei said before, he would shut us here for one month, then I didn’t know if Leon and I would be crazy because of hunger.
“Come here.” Leon leaned on the wall and asked me to stop walking around. “Lie down here, don’t walk around. It will consume your energy and you might be more hungry.”
I thought what he said was reasonable so I went there and laid down as Leon did. Then I heard his stomach murmured again.
“How about we divide the egg into two. Each of us have half. How is it?” I proposed.
“They don’t offer us food, then we should insist longer. What shall we do if we finish it today? We could leave it. Then we could have hope if we take it when next egg comes. Because we always have an egg left.”
I felt it was reasonable too. It was hope made people alive in desperate circumstances. As long as we had hope, it would be easier for us to insist and resist hunger.
As we thought, there was no dinner, nothing did they give us. We really only had an egg.
I felt dizzy at night. Hunger hit me every now and then. It was useless though I had lots of water.
Leon held my hand and said embarrassingly “It was me who got you into trouble. Second brother kidnapped us when I was not ready. I’m useless.”
“It’s not your fault. No one knows he is a person like this. You couldn’t see before. And now you could just see and you have to face this. Don’t blame yourself anymore, it’s not your fault. You can’t consider everything well.”
“Why it’s not my fault? It’s my fault. I have to talk with second brother. He can abuse me, but he can’t do this to you. At least you need to have food. You will be sick if he continue to do this .”
I pulled his arm and said “Don’t beg him. He will not say yes. He wanted us to go crazy by doing so. You forgot what he said? He said sometimes living is more suffering than died. He wants to torment us.”
“I will ask him to let you go. He can do anything to me, but I will not allow you to suffer. ” Said Leon.
“Leon, you are such a clever guy. Why now you are so stubborn? You are clear that he will not say yes, why asking for insult?” I pulled him.
He gradually clammed down and sat down.
I comforted him gently “Don’t be like this, Leon. It’s just hunger. Hunger will go. We will not die. How could you be beat by hunger? We are losers if we are beat so easily.”
