Wenbei said in a very straightforward way, so Jiye Su was a little embarrassed.
But it was inappropriate for him to rebuke Wenbei in front of us, so he just smiled awkwardly, “Calm down. This is a business matter, don’t let personal affections interfere with business.”
I was even unhappy after hearing what he said. I didn’t want to beg him to help us again, so I pretended to agree with him. “Business is business. Just deal with it in a business way.” I said in an angry tone.
Leon was smart, and he also understood Jiye’s meaning. He nodded politely, “I’ll thank Chairman Su first. If you can help, I’m grateful. It’s fine if you can’t.”
“I’ll definitely find a way to convince those directors. You wait for my good news.” Jiye said.
“Thank you. Then we’ll go.” Leon stood up.
“Would you like another cup of tea?” said Jiye.
“Thank you, but we have to go.” Leon said.
I took Leon’s arm and walked out of Su family’s villa. I was glad that Jiye didn’t find that Leon was blind.
Leon got into the passenger seat and I had to fasten his seat belt for him. He said he wanted to do it himself. I knew that he didn’t want to bother me all the time. He wanted to learn to do more on his own.
I just started the car when Wenbei ran out. He asked us to wait for him, and then he opened the door and got in.
“I’m so sorry for what my dad did.” said Wenbei.
Leon smiled, “I understand. It’s reasonable for him to do so.”
“Anyway, you’ve helped him before. Now that you need his help, he even refused.” I was a little unconvinced
“He didn’t refuse.” Leon corrected me. “He just said that he wanted to get the board’s approval.”
“But what if the board doesn’t approve, then what? And even if the board agrees, how complicated would the process have to be, we don’t have time to wait.” said I.
“The board will definitely agree.” Leon was confident.
“Why are you so confident?” Wenbei was also puzzled.
“We funded the Nanhe Group to support the market in the first place, and we got benefits from it. Likewise, if Nanhe Group funded us this time, they can make much money, too. The reason why Chairman Su needs the board’s support is that he doesn’t want people to have the opportunity to trouble him. It’s not appropriate for him to use personal relationships to help us. But he has promised that he will make sure that the other directors agree as well. And there’s no need for a formal board meeting for something like this. He can just get a few people close to him to have a video conference and decide this.”
“So you’re saying that my dad actually agreed to this?” Wenbei asked.
“I think he’s agreed to it. Older businessmen are different from us. We agree to things right away, but seniors always have to think about it so as to be prudent. You’ve been studying and working abroad for a long time, so you’re not very accustomed to these people at home, but I know a bit more.” Leon said with a smile.
“Well, you’ve got a point there. So it’s not that my dad won’t do it, he just has to pretend to think about it, and then he’ll say yes, right?” Wenbei said.
“That’s pretty much what I have in mind. I’m confident that it can work.” said Leon.
“But I also have to warn you that maybe it may fail. The Su family is complicated and it’s not up to Dad to decide, so you still have to be prepared for that. We need to have a plan B.”
What Wenbei meant was that there were some people who had influence on the politics in the Nanhe Group’s board, so they also could influence the decisions of the board. This uncertainty did exist.
Leon thought for a moment and said, “What’s your plan B?”
“I can raise a portion of the funds. If you can too, we can do it ourselves, even if my dad doesn’t agree,” Wenbei said.
Leon shook his head, “I’m afraid I can’t. I’m blind right now. It’s inconvenient for me to do many things.”
“My connections are basically abroad, and my friends there can help me, but it’s also a bit more difficult. I also have contacts in Yang City. But my dad basically knows the people I know. He will be unhappy if I work with someone to do something he doesn’t agree with. I don’t want to have a conflict with him. But if there’s really no other way, I can also consider doing it.”
“Don’t worry, your father will help me.” said Leon.
Chatting all the way, I sent Wenbei back to his villa before heading back to the hotel.
When I returned the hotel, I helped Leon take off his jacket, and then prepared water for him to soak his feet.
He reached out to touch my head, “Thank you. If I can get my eyesight back, I will love you dearly. I will never fail you for the rest of my life.”
I smiled at him, even though he couldn’t see. “You have to keep your word. I take your words seriously. I will remember them.”
“I mean what I say. I’m not going to lie to you. I’ve been thinking for the last two days that I should have been nicer to you before. Now that I’m blind, it’s too late to be nice to you. I’m sorry that I don’t take care of you, and I also make you suffer.”
“Even if I’m suffering, I’m happy if I can be with you. And what I say is sincere. And your eyes will definitely regain sight. Tomorrow, Wenbei will send a group of doctors to come over, and I will choose the best one for you. He will definitely cure your eyes.”
Leon smiled, “How are you going to choose the best one? Pick the best looking one?”
“Yeah, a good-looking man can’t be a bad doctor.” I joked.
“Well, I trust you.” Leon said seriously.
“Do you really think Chairman Su will help you support the market? Are you really that optimistic, or are you pretending to be optimistic in front of Wenbei?”
“I’m really optimistic. Chairman Su is experienced and he knows what he can do to get the maximum benefits. Funding Hua Group is definitely a good opportunity for his company. He can make money and he also can expand his company’s influence in Hai City. And there has been cooperation between our two companies. If we work together again, then our two companies will have more chances to cooperate with each other, so he will definitely do this.”
“But I think you have other concerns.” I asked.
“Now I’m more worried about what’s going to happen in Hua family. I think it is a conspiracy. The goal is not only to hit Hua Group’s share price, but there are other schemes. If it were you, would you kill someone just to make a company go bankrupt?”
I thought for a moment and said “I won’t. The most I’ll do is to expose this company in a negative light, there’s no need to commit crime.”
“That’s right, that’s why I’m worried that something will happen to the Hua family. If something happened, then I’m afraid it won’t be easy to support the market.”
Leon’s face became more worried. I was uneasy as well. I didn’t expect the once prestigious Hua family to become like this now.
