When we arrived at Maple Vila, I asked Jiannan Lyu to stop the car here.
“Aren’t you going to invite me to your house?” Jiannan asked
I wasn’t going to invite him to my home. Now Leon wasn’t home, and even if he was, I can’t invite Jiannan. He wasn’t a good guy.
“Maybe some other time. No matter what, I want to thank you for helping me today. I’ll treat you to dinner tomorrow.”
Jiannan looked unhappy, “You always lie to me. I’m not sure whether you’ll call me tomorrow.”
“I’ll call you. I still want you to help me find Leon,” I said.
“Alright then, I’ll wait for your call.” Jiannan was a little happier.
I felt vexed when I got back. I didn’t have dinner. After taking a shower, I went to bed. It was almost ten o’clock when my phone suddenly rang, and it was from Leon.
I quickly answered, and there was Leon’s calm voice, “Do you go to bed?”
“You should ask me if I’m alive.” I said angrily.
“Why are you so angry? I’m not even mad that you and Jiannan Lyu lied to me together, why are you mad?”
“I lied to you because you didn’t see me. And you lied to me in the first place. You didn’t leave the country. Why did you tell me that you went to America? What the hell are you up to?”
Leon was silent for a moment before saying slowly, “Yes, I don’t leave the country. I have some personal matters. That’s why I lied to you. But you shouldn’t have lied to me with Jiannan Lyu. You should know what kind of person he is. You’re getting yourself into trouble by working with him.”
“He’s just doing me a favor. I can’t find you, so I have to ask him for help. I just didn’t expect you to see through it. Maybe I am not important to you either, so you just called the police. You didn’t even come to my rescue.”
“Your acting sucks. I know what kind of person Jiannan Lyu is. If he really wanted to kidnap you, he would have taken you to a dangerous place. Why would he take you to the hotel? And he always has a crush on you, so why would he beat you bloody? Obviously, it isn’t reasonable. You really understate me.”
We thought that everything had been set up seamlessly, but we didn’t realize that what we were doing was just a joke in Leon’s view.
“Don’t look for me. I’ll show up when I’m supposed to. You just stay at home.” Leon said again.
“Why do I have to do at your disposal? You can do whatever you want, and I’m going to do whatever you want me to do. Listen, I don’t want or expect anything from you. I just want my son back, then you can do whatever you want, and I will never interfere with you.”
“Our son is fine in America, you don’t have to worry about him. I sent him to the US for his safety as well. Haven’t you ever thought that how many times you have been kidnapped? If the child is in Hai City, I’m afraid he’ll be the one to bear all these kidnappings. Are you willing to let him take that risk? The child is innocent of the fight between adults. Don’t get him involved.”
I actually knew he had a point, but I just couldn’t let go.
“Give me some time and I promise I’ll let you see our son,” Leon continued, “and take care of yourself.”
“You tell me what the hell you’re doing. Why are you avoiding me? Whatever plans you have, whatever you want to do, I’ll support you, but you really don’t have to hide from me, it’s unfair for me.”
“I know. It’s only temporary. I told you to give me some time. But I’m sorry I can’t tell you what I’m doing now. You take care of yourself. At no time should you give up hope.”
After talking for a long time, he still wouldn’t see me or tell me what he was doing. I was a little disappointed.
I didn’t wait for him to hang up, but I hung up first this time.
Leon really didn’t care about my feelings at all. He could do whatever he wanted, and I had to accept whatever he gave me.
The next day I just turned off my phone and stayed home and read, then worked out and watched a movie. I completely wasted the day. Since I was powerless to change everything, I was going to be negative or I was going to be pissed off.
In the evening, I was walking in the small garden after dinner. Suddenly someone rang the doorbell of the gate. Zhen went to see and came back. She said that there was a foreigner at the gate and that he wanted to see me.
I immediately knew that Zhen must be talking about Jiannan. He was half white and then his hair was dyed gray, which made him look like a foreigner indeed.
I went to open the door. He was standing right in the doorway and wasn’t going to come in. He said he wanted to see me about something.
I asked him what it was, and he said that he might have found out where Leon lived. Since he didn’t get through to me, he had to come and see me.
“Just give me a few minutes. I’ll change my clothes and then I’ll come with you.” I said.
“Okay, I’ll meet you at the door.” He said.
He knew I didn’t want him to come in, so he stayed at the door. After I changed my clothes, I went out and got into his car.
“Where does Leon live? How did you find it?” I asked Jiannan.
“I’m not sure where he is. I had my men follow Xuanlong Jiang, but he found my men. He also beat up them.” Jiannan said exasperatedly.
“Then how did you find his place? Did you find it or not?” I was a little anxious.
“Be patient, I’ll tell you. When I was out today, I happened to notice Xuanlong Jiang’s men hanging around the seafood market there. I found out that they were waiting for someone. Finally a fisherman came and gave him an oxygen-filled bucket of fish. You know that Leon loves fish and he is very particular about the fish, so I immediately thought of him.”
“I took a taxi to follow them. They weren’t as alert as Xuanlong Jiang. They didn’t notice anyone following them. I followed them all the way to a villa. Then I had someone investigate the villa later. This villa is the property under Xunlong Jiang’s name, so I guess that Leon is living there. But I don’t dare to go there alone, they must be prepared. I’m afraid they’ll deal with me together, so I ask you to come with me.”
Hearing Jiannan’s words, I thought that he had a point. Leon really did like fish the most and was extremely particular about eating it. There was a really good chance that the person living there was Leon.
