Avalyn
I teleported myself out of the room and I ended up crashing into someone.
Concerned hazel eyes bored into mine. Natalia.
“Are you okay?” She asked immediately, catching me before I fell down. “Dimitri along with a search party is out looking for you.”
“N-Nat.” I pressed my teeth together to stop them from chattering. “I – there-A-Adrik!”
“He’s here, Natalia! He- he…” I couldn’t breathe again.
“Take deep breaths.” She held my shoulders. “Tell me everything.”
“He was following me… warning… stop searching… he-” I started crying again, I couldn’t tell her what he did. I couldn’t bear to speak about it.
Her eyes slid behind me before she focused on me again. “Are you sure it was him?”
“Yes! Believe me. Please… I -I’m not lying… he’s here… he was running after me.” I was hyperventilating.
“And you couldn’t tell me about this earlier?” Nik’s thunderous voice hit my ears and I jumped, turning around immediately.
“You are coming with me right now and you are going to tell me where exactly you saw him.” He grabbed my hand and started pulling me out of the palace. He was hurting me.
I really didn’t have the energy to follow him there again, and certainly not enough to keep up with his long stride. Nor did I want to go to that place again.
“I-I don’t want to go.” I said weakly.
“It was not a question nor was it a request.” He hissed.
“I’m tired and I can barely walk, Nikolai.” I whispered. “Please. You can find his scent without me too.”
“Rain washes away scent and tracks. We are only going to waste time.” He dragged me towards the garage. “We are not going there on foot.”
“It was a trek.” I sighed. He’s still as stubborn as ever. “You can’t drive a car there.”
He dragged me across the parking lot and then sat on an ATV. “Get on.”
I wondered how I will get on without causing myself further pain.
In a swift move, Nik picked me up and placed me on the seat, in front of him. A cry tore through me as the movement hurt my ribs.
“I don’t want your weak self falling off somewhere in the middle.” He said as he sped out of the garage. Did he care? “I don’t have time to pick you up.” That explains it. We were on the road first before we had to drive on the terrain.
I was giving him directions, all the while holding my mid-section tightly so I could minimise the impact. But it still hurt. Every small bump felt like a huge blow.
I hoped this would end fast.
It wasn’t raining anymore but it was windy and I was feeling darn cold, especially because the wind was directly hitting me. But Nik’s body was providing me warmth. His arms were on the handle from either sides of me and his face was inches away from mine. I could feel his heart beat as his chest was pressed against my back and his breath tingled against my ear as he inhaled and exhaled.
I looked at him from the corner of my eye.
His jaw was set as he looked straight ahead. His lips looked more kissable than ever, his skin more tanned, his beard very attractive. I didn’t know I even liked beards, but seeing Nik like this, I realised that I did. His hair flew behind because of the wind and his eyes were narrowed a little. His eyebrows were set in a frown that meant he was very concentrated on the task at hand. His thick eyelashes framed his grey eyes that looked almost black in the dark.
The same grey eyes that just gave me a flash back of a nightmare I never wanted to revisit. I lowered my eyes. Looking at him hurt.
Was it even possible? Could the man you love with all your heart be the source of your nightmare?
I wish I never came outside.
In some time, we reached the top of the first mountain. “Stop.” I said and he did.
“This was the last place I saw him. He was about to catch me here.” I wheezed out. “But I teleported back home.”
He got off the ATV and started taking rounds around the area, smelling and searching for traces of Adrik.
I sat on the ATV, in a lot of pain and shivering because of the cold- I was still soaking wet.
Nik came back in five minutes.
“Found something?” I asked softly.
“No. But Mikhail did.” He got behind me again and started driving.
I covered my mid-section with my arms again and braced myself for the bumpy ride.
“I can smell him on you.” I could feel Nik’s breath on ear.
That’s because he had plastered himself on my body. And he had touched me in a place I can never tell you about.
Nik brought the ATV to a stop where a large group of people had gathered. He got off and walked towards them.
The crowd parted like the sea and allowed Nik to walk to the centre and then shifted back to their positions, covering him from my view.
I noticed that the tree they were standing under was the same canopy tree he had held me under.
“Shut up, Slut. I remember the way I caned the fuck out of your ass before I fucked your pussy raw. You were lucky you had passed out then. All this screaming makes me want to gag you.”
I squeezed my eyes shut.
