“I also want to know how your eating habits are, because after all, we will dine together very often. If I know your preference, I can order meals for you,” said Jiannan Lyu as he snickered.
Ignoring his flirtation, I finished ordering dishes and turned to the point. “I had been kidnapped by someone, so you couldn’t reach me yesterday.”
“You needn’t make an excuse to avoid me,” said Jiannan as he smiled.
“I’m now telling you the truth, not for fun. With high way blocked yesterday, I chose the national way, but when I went by a small town, I was kidnapped. Knowing clearly my whereabouts, those kidnappers waited right there for me to come. However, those people didn’t know my background at all, in other words, they were hired by someone to do so. People who knew my whereabouts were no other than Wenbei Su and you. More importantly, my Second Brother will never hurt me…”
I stopped saying before I could have finished my words, because I thought he could understand me.
His face turned darker and looked at me with his head tilted in curiosity, asking, “So, you deemed it was I hurting you?”
“If you were me, what do you think?” asked I.
“How can I prove myself not doing so? Should I cut down my fingers to prove my innocence?” said he, coldly.
I was quite familiar with the fierceness in his eyes, which was just the same as that in Xuanlong’s eyes. They really had something in common with each other.
“I didn’t ask you to cut down your fingers. And what do I have them for?” said I.
“Well. What do you expect me to do so that you can trust me?” said he as his face became even more gloomy, from which I could tell he did take it very seriously. He has just helped me out of a big trouble, but I am suspecting him of kidnapping me. For him, it was really hard to accept.
“I just want you to recollect a little. Who else did you tell my whereabouts? Or is it possible that someone else planned to kidnap me after eliciting my whereabout out of you?”
Hearing this, he felt a bit relieved. “So, you just suspect me of leaking your whereabouts?”
“Yeah. That’s what I’m considering,” answered I as I nodded my head for admission.
With his head tilted for deliberation, Jianan burst into silence for a while. Suddenly, he stood up and said, “Damn it! It must have been Ruoxin Chen!”
From his mouth came out of the name that was exactly the same as I thought.
While I was talking with Jiannan on the phone, Ruoxin was in Yang City as well. Although I’m still unsure whether she was beside him then, she could pump my whereabouts from him. Considering her ability, she could absolutely plan a kidnap on knowing my whereabouts. Moreover, she could hire someone else to do it for her, with no need for doing it herself.
“Did you tell Ruoxin my whereabouts?”
“Completely not. I was on the balcony calling you, and when we finished talking, I found her behind me. I’m not sure whether she heard something we talked about, but if she had heard anything, it must have come out of me.”
“Alright. You said you wanted to prove your innocence, didn’t you? Now, I need you to check it out for me. Once the truth is uncovered, you will be definitely proved innocent.” said I.
“Ok. I will bring Ruoxin for you to interrogate, but if she refuses to tell the truth, I will cripple her,” said Jiannan, cruelly.
“It needn’t so. You just investigate her secretly, after all, she is the mayor’s daughter. It will be a risk to have her here forcefully for interrogation. I don’t want to be in trouble.”
“You are afraid of her?”
“I don’t afraid of her. I’m just afraid of the power behind her. I’m an ordinary citizen, having no competence against her. More importantly, I don’t want to be against her, indeed,” answered I.
“You’re a liar. You’re not afraid of her, even the power behind her. I know what kind of person you are. You just want me to do it for you, rather than doing it yourself, as a result, you will make things clear without showing up.”
What he said, to some extent, did make sense. I was surely meant to avail him for me, but it was not for my wickedness, but for his appropriateness to be availed for these things. His high efficiency in doing things is remarkably noted for his devious means.
“You can reject me if you think I’m taking advantage of you.”
“No. I’m willing to be availed by you. For anything that Leon Hua couldn’t do, you can ask me for help. And I promise to do better than him. I have to let you know I’m not inferior to him at all, instead, I’m better than him.
What he said made me mute, not knowing what to say.
Luckily, the food began to be served, but Jiannan declined to eat, only to look at me rigidly.
“Well. Nothing pleases your appetite?” asked I, with eyebrows frowned.
“Not exactly. Where is the wine? As a fair-skinned young lady from a decent family, you must know good feast is always served with good wine, do you?” asked Jiannan.
“Wine is not for today. Let’s begin to eat. I can’t drink for I have something to do later. Drinking alone for you is too boring, so you’d better not drink too,” said I, indifferently.
Feeling discontented about what I said, Jiannan behaved like a child. “You’ve been too much on me,” said he as he put down his chopsticks. “Why can’t I drink? I’m not short of food. I just want to drink with you, but you don’t let me drink. I feel disappointed. You know, in Hai City, there is a street of all sorts of bars, where you can drink, and even take a bath there.”
“Well. You can drink, but not with me. I do have urgent things to do later. You can order whatever you want to drink.”
“You sure? Not drink with me?”
“I really have something to do later, so can’t drink with you.”
“Ok. Let’s go. I don’t feel like eating now. I’ve got to go back to Hai City, and I will find out who is the manipulator. Once I get concrete information, I will let you know at once.”
He obviously got angry as if a heavy chilly air had come out of him, making me feel somewhat scared. From his point of view, perhaps I have been too harsh on him.
Sitting quietly, I looked at him. “I do have urgent things to handle, so I can’t drink. If you get angry because of this, I can’t help it.”
He looked at me with a smirk and then sat down again. “I’m not angry. I just want to sound out whether you will persuade me to stay, but I didn’t expect you to let me go.”
“I appreciate what you’ve done for me, but I’m not kind of person who intentionally tries to please others. Once again, I can’t drink today. Sorry about that.”
“Ok. I can drink for myself, but no matter how busy you are, please spare a little time dining with me, will you?” said Jiannan. He tried to withhold his temper even if he felt extremely un-happy, which was really hard for him.
After having a quick look at my watch, I said, “As long as it won’t be too late, I can wait until you’ve finished eating.”
He ordered a bottle of Maotai(a kind of brand wine) and began to drink. After a short while, he finished the whole bottle. I was shocked by his capacity for liquor!
We sat face to face, but he suddenly stood up to sit beside me. Though awkward, I pretended to be calm, and lowered my head to take a sip of soup.
“The women who I take fancy to can never get out of my hand. If refused, I will finally get them forcefully. This is what I’ve been always practicing,” said Jiannan.
Hearing this, I felt a little nervous and suddenly realized it was quite dangerous to keep close contact with this guy. I’d better not contact him anymore.
“But you are different from them. You are special. I really love you, so don’t worry. I won’t take drastic action to you before I have run out of my patience.”
Before I could ask him what did drastic action mean, I realized I couldn’t ask him about this. Having a quick look at my watch, I forged a relaxed smile and said, “I’ve got to go now, I have important things to do.”
