Chapter 255

Book:Confused Love Published:2024-5-1

It turned out that nobody had come to visit me in the following week.
I gradually calmed down, having a hunch that this time it would not be so easy for me to find my way out. Having hospitalized Yaohui Hua, our adversaries must have made up their minds to achieve their aims. They maimed Yaohui Hua, and tried to pin the mayhem on me, which was a deadly ruse that kills two birds with one stone. Since they had come to that point of their plan, they would certainly not set me free that easily.
There would be a great hold-back for Leon under the circumstance that I was trapped there, and Leon possibly couldn’t play his best card for my arrest.
As the day passed, I finished the 5 books that Ying Hua had brought me using her social relationships. It should have been half a month, and once I had nothing to do, I got a little bit anxious.
However, at that point, there was someone coming to see me. It’s Wenbei Su.
On seeing Wenbei, I felt a sense of kinship. But that time, I didn’t cry. During that time, I had completely calmed myself down.
“Is everything okay with you, little sister? I beg your pardon for my late visit, for I did that out of frustration.” Wenbei greeted, his eyes filled with solicitude.
I could feel my tears burn behind my eyes, but I managed to suppress my boiling emotions and put on a calm look, “It’s nothing much, second brother. Man’s fate is as uncertain as the weather. And I believe that everything will be fine.”
“There is someone in high position keeping an eye on your case, and no one is allowed to see you. Things were difficult to deal with… And I had a hard time getting a chance to visit you today.” Wenbei said slowly, apparently in a heavy mood.
A person flashed in my mind. It was Ruoxin Chen. I only had a vague idea of what her role was in the whole affair, but I was quite sure about her involvement. Aside from one of the board members of Hua’s Group, another important identity of her was the mayor’s daughter.
Judging by that, the close attention of the higher-ups on my case has something to do with Ruoxin Chen. In Hai City’s politics, she certainly had plenty of resources to mobilize, which was her greatest asset.
“Anyway, you don’t need to be so upset. The situation has not yet come to the point of no return, and I’m still working on that. And if things go from bad to worse, I will make a trip to the capital, and then manage to…”
“Don’t do that, second brother,”I interrupted, “I don’t hope to get you involved so much. I don’t want you to engage in the power struggle of Hai City on my account, because your forces will be weakened. Most of your forces are in Yang City, but not Hai City, and You shouldn’t get involved. ”
“I know what you mean. You are afraid that I will get killed in the affair.” Wenbei said.
“Were I in Yang City, I would have full trust in your strength. But this s Hai City, where Leon’s strength is far beyond yours. If there’s nothing Leon can do about it, your involvement will probably be of no avail. Just wait for me to be set free, and then we can take up the wine cup and chat merrily.”
Wenbei was silent for a moment. He was a rational person, and at such times he would never growl out stupid things like “I will surely bail you out”. He knew exactly what I meant. If he was to meddle too much in the affairs of Hai City, chances were that he would be of no help and get killed.
” Has Leon Hua come to see you?” Wenbei asked out of the blue.
“No, he didn’t. He must have been very busy recently, and you told me that there is someone preventing others from visiting me.”
Wenbei bent his head a little, and said heavily in a low voice,”You’ve told me that in Hai City, his is much more powerful than me. Even there is someone preventing you from being visited, I can still get the chance to see you. With more strength, Leon can get that chance too, can’t he?”
Finding his words slightly improper, he added,”I’m not sowing discord, and I just think that Leon’s behaviors are a bit strange. By the way, Leon was elected as the new chairman of the board of directors, which was announced in a notice issued by Hua’s Group two days ago. Leon is now the one that’s in charge of Hua’s Group. ”
My mind went blank when I heard of this piece of news. I didn’t know whether to be happy or sad. Leon’s coming into power was the outcome of our joint effort, and Leon had finally attained his wish. I should have felt very happy for him, but it seemed that I wasn’t that happy.
As he had reached his goal, why didn’t he tell me the news in the first place? Why didn’t he come to see me? Was it really because he can’t?
“Second brother,” I forced a smile,”I know what you mean. It was me who told him to keep clear of me, because I didn’t want him to get involved. Though they had set me up, their real target is Leon. You know what I mean, right?”
Wenbei nodded,”I see. But, little sister, what if Leon doesn’t think that way?”
I said with a bitter smile, “Second brother, life is just like a gamble. I am only in control of my choices and my actions, and I can’t manipulate the choices of others. If he doesn’t think that way, I should concede my defeat.”
“Can you afford the failure?”
I thought for a moment before replying,”If I lose, whether I can afford it or not, I should face reality.”
Wenbei let out a sigh, and lapsed into silence.
“You should go back, second brother, and there is no need to worry about me. Whatever the final outcome of the trial is, I can take it all.”I smiled at him.
“I will try my best and do as much as possible. All we can do at this point is to expect Yaohui Hua to come out of his stupor as early as possible. In that way, things will be easier to cope with. If he is in a persistent coma, things may be very difficult for us.”
“Do what we can do, and leave the rest to the god. Don’t get too worried about me, second brother. Leave here, and send my greetings to Alex if you have any free time. Thanks, second brother.”
Then someone came in to told us that the visiting time was over, urging Wenbei to leave as soon as possible.
I smiled and watched Wenbei leave. When his figure disappeared from my sight, great loneliness overwhelmed me, and I felt abandoned by the world.
Then out of nowhere, I had a strong desire to meet with Leon. I might feel a little better if he paid a simple visit to me, but he never showed up, never he did.
In the following days, Wenbei paid a few more visits. He told me that the situation was not optimistic, and that he had hired a well-known barrister to defend me against the allegation. The barrister, who had shown his confidence in settling the case, said that the worst outcome should be my being sentenced to 3 years in jail. If that should be the case, they would manage to put me on probation.
I must hang in there anyway, persisting in denying that I had abetted the attack on Yaohui Hua.
I would certainly not plead guilty, since I didn’t do that at all.
Nearly a month later, I was informed that my case would go to trial soon. My heart, which had calmed down before, became restless again, since I didn’t know what would happen next.
The day before the trial, my lawyer came to see me. He told me that he was confident that he would get me acquitted of mayhem. He encouraged me to pull myself together and wished me good luck. Then he discussed some details concerning my case with me, which somehow put me at ease.
When the day finally came, everything went as usual. Before entering the courtroom, I was carefully warned that the trial might last a little long and asked if I needed to go to the washroom by a staff member.
I agreed, because I got a little bit nervous and I did feel like using the bathroom.
“If you are not confessing your guilt today, there will be an accident happening to your son.”, I went into the washroom, only to heard that guard threaten,”There is a big truck outside your son’s kindergarten. The moment your son comes out of the kindergarten, that van will run him down and cause a traffic accident.”
