Alex kept calling to his dad, ignoring him.
Kissing the speed limit, I raced my car out of the bar street and pulled over. The first thing I wanted to do after making a successful escape was to get Xuanlong Jiang to help Leon.
It is said that two palms have difficulty fighting four hands. Moreover, there was about a dozen of people.
I reached for my phone for fear that Hua might get his ass kicked, only to be stopped by Jiannan Lyu. “Are you trying to phone Xuanlong Jiang? I have helped you out of kindness, but why do you only give your heart to Leon Hua? You really broke my heart. Ah, Alex is on the back seat, right?” Jiannan Lyu said, with his hands clutching my hand.
The threat in his words was very clear. If I were to find someone to help Leon, he would do Alex some harm.
I shot an angry glance at him, but he smiled instead of getting cross, not taking me seriously.
I froze with fear at the moment. Then, I threw my phone over my shoulder and drove on, putting on an angry expression,” Fine. I’m not going to phone him.”
And it was not long before I heard Alex’s sweet and soft voice.”Uncle Long, my father has got in a fight with a gang of men…Um, right, he’s in the bar street.”
Sure enough, my golden boy never lets me down. I gave him a thumbs-up inwardly.
Jiannan Lyu looked backward in surprise, and then he looked at me.
“You are not embarrassing a child, are you? ” I said swiftly to him,”A kid will naturally care about his father. It isn’t a big deal, is it?”
Jiannan Lyu was stupefied before bursting into laughter.”What a clever little thing!”he exclaimed, adding,”How old is he? Leon Hua should feel very blessed to have a beautiful wife and a smart son! ”
“Alex, apologize to Uncle Lu and ask for his forgiveness.” I hastened to say.
“Uncle Lu, please excuse me for being impolite.” Alex said obediently.
“It’s nothing much. I just really like your cleverness, hahaha…” Jiannan Lyu laughed again.
I couldn’t see why he laughed, but fear and uneasiness just overwhelmed me.
We had covered another distance and were approaching Maple Villa when Jiannan Lyu told me to pull over to put him down, which was exactly what I had expected.
He thanked me for the lift, and then turned to look at Alex,”Be good, Alex. I’ll leave.”
“Bye, Uncle Lu!” Alex replied politely.
“Bye.” Jiannan Lyu got out of the car, waved his hand to me and hailed a cab.
I grabbed my phone to call Xuanlong Jiang, only to be told that he failed to spot Leon at the scene and that he was trying to locate Leon.
After returning home, Alex refused to sleep. He clamoured to see his father, and kept asking why Leon wasn’t back and whether Leon was stuck in trouble.
I just couldn’t get in touch with Leon, because Leon had gotten off in such a hurry, that he had left his phone in the car.
What I could do was just to tell a lie to Alex and urge him to go to bed. I told him that Leon was just driving Miss Lin home, and that Leon would be back soon after Alex fell asleep.
It was hard to take Alex in, which didn’t surprise me that much. And Alex insisted on staying up to wait for Leon’s return.
Slightly annoyed, I scolded Alex, causing him to run back to his room in a fit of pique.
I was feeling so bad then. Alex got extremely worried about Hua, and so did I.
I stayed up until two o’clock, but Leon still hadn’t returned.
With great anxiety, I laid awake on my bed, and every second seemed like a year to me.
I got up as soon as I heard the sound of a car, and dashed out onto the balcony. I saw Leon come near, while the man who sent him back turned the car around and drove away.
I was so glad for his safe return, but in the next moment, anger filled my heart.
Perhaps this is the nature of human, I thought. Before his return, I was so worried that I prayed fervently to god for his safety. But once he returned sound and safe, it occurred to me that it was him who had insisted on helping Nan Lin out, landing me in a state of anxiety.
With a little anger, I returned to my room and pretended to have fallen asleep.
“Nala?” Leon knocked softly on my door.
Minutes later, I had to open the door with the thought that Leon would keep knocking unless I opened my door.
There was no wound on his face, but the big tear on the right sleeve of his shirt immediately caught my eye.
“Is everything okay with you and Alex?” he asked.
“Everything is fine. I shall go to work tomorrow, so I have to go to bed now.” I replied in a bland tone.
“You are not falling asleep without my safe return, are you?” asked Leon.
“Then what should I do? Looking for you on the street? Even brother Long couldn’t locate you, and why do you think I have that ability?”I talked back.
“Are you still angry?”
“No, I’m not. It is in the early morning, and I just wanna sleep.”
“Nan Lin was being bullied, and I couldn’t just stand by. I just never expected that…”
“Alex was watching from the car! And you got in fight with others! You think you had set a good example for Alex, hum? Nan Lin had only himself to blame, didn’t he? It was him who got drunk and behaved in an improper manner, so why did you try to perform your heroics? ”
“You are being unreasonable, Nala Yao! How could I just stand aside?” Leon fired back coolly.
“Enough. I’m not in the mood for a quarrel at this hour of the night. Just get out. I wanna go to bed.”
“Where did the Little Devil take you two?” Leon queried, showing no intention to leave.
His questioning fueled my anger. I replied in a cool dry voice, “He was just sending us back. He didn’t take us anywhere, and he did nothing to us.”
“Why did him send you back home? And why did you make him take you back?”
“It was him who offered to take us home without being asked by me. You know that, our car was besieged by the gang. If I had been the only person in the car, I wouldn’t have cared about my life. But Alex was also in the car, and I simply couldn’t let him get implicated into the conflict for your ‘heroism’ !
Leon was quiet for a moment. “So, are you still blaming me for that? Or you are just telling me that, I shouldn’t have helped Nan Lin out, no matter what happened to him?” he retorted.
“I didn’t say that. That’s your own business. I was just saying that I would simply put Alex first in any circumstance. This is it.”
“Jiannan Lyu treats you well, doesn’t he? It was strange that he treat everyone except you badly.” Leaving a word behind, Leon turned and walked away.
I had no mood to explain. And there’s nothing to explain.
When I woke up the next day, my eyelids were heavy, and I felt quite sleepy. In a poor spirit, I decided to get more sleep. However, it was nearly nine o’clock when I woke up again.
Having finished washing, I went downstairs, only to spot that Alex and Hua had already left home for school or work.
“Are you awake, madam?” Zhen the Maid greeted, adding,”we have all finished the breakfast, and Mr Hua told us to be careful not to wake you up. Just a moment, I’ll fry an egg for you.”
After taking my breakfast, I drove to work.
During the ride, I got a call from Leon.
“Nala, are you awake? Are you going to work?”
“There’s no need to supervise me. I have left home for work, but I’m still on the way to Lanhai Technology.” I replied unhappily.
“I’m not supervising you. I just would like to remind you that Aunt should come to you today. When meeting with her, just simply tell her that I had reached an agreement with Wenbei Su. In response, I just hung up the phone. I was not going to guess.

Leon called me again in seconds, but I didn’t pick up the phone.
Why did I not answer the phone? Let him guess!
He kept making phone calls, but I was not going to pick up. I would like him to keep guessing.
