“I daren’t say that lest you would censure me,” said I while staring at Chenfeng Hua innocently.
“What have you exactly done? Why do you think I would censure you? Have you broken up with Feng Shen?” asked Chenfeng, even more furiously.
“No. It has nothing to do with him.”
“So, who is he? Mu Chen?” he said this in a furious manner as if his eyes spurt out with fire.
“Could you please calm down? I don’t even dare to say,” said I, timidly.
“Hurry to say,” said Chenfeng who couldn’t withstand my hesitation anymore.
“Shen Feng’s company was located in a startup hub of the suburb.”
“I knew that. And Then?”
“On my way back, the other side of the road came off a car that has nearly hit me. I therefore pulled to a stop. After missing it successfully, I stopped the car.”
“To the point,” growled Chenfeng.
“Then I found the person in the car was Jiannan Lyu who was pale-faced and crawled to me for help. I was a little freaked out then, for I knew he was not good. I wanted to leave him alone, but I couldn’t bear someone dies in front of me. So, I advised to calling him an ambulance which was finally refused by him for the reason that he might get poisoned. Hearing this, I was then driving him to the hospital.”
That was so wired that even Chenfeng couldn’t react at once the time he heard that.
“You said you came across Jiannan? He was poisoned and begged you to save him?
“Then?” asked him as he stared at me.
“While he was in the ICU, I left the hospital. And there was nothing more…” said she, attempting to cover something.
“So, you don’t know for sure whether he was still alive?” asked him with all his eyes fixed on me.
“I don’t know. The only reason I sent him to the hospital was out of my sympathy for life. I’ve already done what I could do and whether he could survive was none of my business.” answered I, nodding my head innocently.
“Why not visit him in the hospital?”
“What?”
“What are you surprised about? Let’s see whether he is still alive. You’re responsible for him for it was you who sent him there. Once he was dead, the police would suspect of you as the suspect.”
Hearing this, a cold sweat broke out.
He was right. The medical staff of that hospital all knew me as the one who sent him there, and the police would blame me for the responsibility once he was dead.
“What if he were dead?” asked me nervously.
“You have to go to the hospital before the police to check whether he is alive, and volunteer to explain them about the truth. Otherwise, those who are against us will make good use of this to frame us.”
“Well. How about setting off right now?” suggested I. For me, I had never undergone such a terrible situation, therefore having no experience about it at all.
“You’d better calm down for there is no need for you to get worried. Even if he finally died, we can also explain it clearly as long as I’m here with you. ”
Although he treated me strictly, he would never forget to comfort me. I was therefore reassured a little.
Arriving at the hospital, we learnt from the working staff there that Jiannan had been poisoned indeed, but luckily, he had been saved through gastric lavage. He then told us the number of his ward.
After the talk with that working staff, I felt a little relieved. How lucky it is for me that he is still alive!
Chenfeng and I then reached the ward where Jiannan was, only to find that he wasn’t there anymore, with only a bottle of unfinished medicine liquid dripping slowly along the needle.
The nurse told us that he was getting infused just now, but didn’t know where he went.
With only a glance at each other, Chenfeng told me not to give anything away.
After leaving the hospital, I asked him, “Am I safe now? He is still alive.”
“You will be fine even if he died, now he is alive, you will be better for sure.”
“Why did he deny all his treatment and escape from the hospital?”
“He might afraid that the one who had poisoned him would come to the hospital. He is sick and can’t handle with the situation, so he chose to hide himself. He is very crafty.
“He had mentioned Mu Chen and you in Hai City. Has he had any other enemies who want to kill him?”
“Jiannan was the worst person in Hai City and committed so many crimes. He therefore has numerous enemies who want to kill him, so it will be necessary for him to arrange several square tables to accommodate the enemies combined. However, it is a little strange this time.”
“In what way was it strange?”
“As far as you know, he was poisoned. If his enemy wanted to kill him, there was no need to poison him, because he would still get a chance to be saved if poisoned. The most direct way is to kill him in the spot with a knife.”
“It’s a matter of underworld which is beyond my knowledge.” said I after deliberation.
“If he was poisoned through the injection by someone else, why did this guy not stab him or shoot him to death? In this way, Jiannan would get no chance to escape from death,” said Chenfeng.
I can understand what he meant and nodded for agreement.
“So, it’s almost impossible that he was injected with the poison. The only possibility, I guess, is he was poisoned while dinning with someone, with the poison in the dishes or in the liquor. The one who poisoned Jiannan was also afraid of him and therefore pretended to keep a close relationship with him. After poisoning him, he slipped away from the spot. Jiannan decided to drive to the hospital after finding himself poisoned. But on the way to the hospital, he was controlled by the poison in his body and lost all his consciousness. His car was therefore out of control and ran upon yours. Then it comes to what you’ve told me before.”
“And then?” asked I with agreement on his words.
“So, during the time he is still chased by someone, you are safe. It’s better that he is busy enough with his own affairs.”
“All right. He is alive, which is pretty good to me, but won’t you blame me for saving him?”
“Absolutely won’t. Just as you said, he was a living man, if I were you, I would also choose to save him, not wanting to see him die in front of me. Vicious as he is, he is only bad to others, having done nothing bad to us. So, you are right to have saved him. But you have to promise me that the next time you encounter with such a thing, you will inform me at first.
“Ok. I promise you that I will call you at once the next time I face this situation.”
…
It was nearly midnight when we got home. Saying nothing, we went to bed for sleep after washing.
It was at midnight that I was suddenly awakened by the vibration of my phone which was a signal of someone calling me.
I snatched the phone to check the number, but the strong light of the screen dazzled my eyes. It was a number from a stranger.
Unwanted calls from strangers were often seen during midnight. So, I put aside my phone and returned to sleep again.
But after a while, a message came. Again, I snatched my phone with eyes half closed, only to notice the message read,” Thank you for saving me.”
Seeing this, I was completely awakened from slumber, in shock.
