I just couldn’t keep the embarrassing topic going so I just changed the topic.
“What do the Parent-child activities include and what preparations are necessary?”
“Yeah, what preparations do we need?” Leon asked me in return.
“Didn’t you know about it? Why do you even ask me?”
“I don’t know about it either as I heard it from Alex, besides, such thing has always been a mother’s duty.” He sounded bold and confident.
I was speechless, neither did I want to talk to him.
After dinner, Leon took Alex to play hide-and-seek in the garden. I was quite surprised how a tall man like him could hide himself away, unbelievable!
Later at night, Leon and Alex came back while I was playing with my phone in bed.
“Mommy, we will go to bed now.” Alex said.
I waved my hand, “Go ahead and goodnight!”
“You have to go with us, as you have promised!” Alex added.
I felt paniked, when on earth did I make that promise?
“Of course you can’t remember, I said yes for you.” Leon sounded serious.
“You can’t make promises on my behalf for anything, can you?” I was annoyed.
“Yes, I can.” He acted as if nothing had happened.
Alex came over and held my hand, “Come on, daddy and mommy are supposed to sleep together, as the other couples do.”
“Let’s go, don’t let him misunderstand that we are having a fight.” Leon continued, “You can sleep with other men but you cant sleep with me? Are you picking on me?”
I indeed didn’t want to disappoint Alex, so I agreed.
It was my first time to step into Leon’s big bedroom.
Though we had been a couple and we had been intimate, I still felt nervous and panic when I came to his bedroom, especially with such bright lights on.
Alex was having a good time rolling around on Leon’s big bed after he put on his pajamas, it’s not hard to see how happy he was.
Leon climbed on the bed and started to play with Alex. How happy they were!
They were playing horse riding for a moment and imitating the big yellow dog for another, all kinds of movements and performances were so eye-broaden. I couldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, that the famous Forth Brother had this side regardless of his image.
“Mom, come, too!” Alex called me, “Come join us and play together!”
I became more nervous and hesitated because it was Leon’s big bed.
“Shall we ask mommy to play cats for us? Mommy plays the best cats!” Leon suggested kindly.
I shook my head immediately, “I can’t, I don’t know how to play cats.”
“But daddy said you can.” Alex said with his lips pouted.
“Yes yes, I saw her playing cats with my own eyes that day! She could do it like a real cat!” Leon added as if he had been telling the truth.
“Come on, come on! Mommy come play the cats, please!”
“Hurry, don’t let the kid down. Come up here. I am the daddy and I can play dogs, why can’t you the mommy play cats?”
I realized that Leon had a deadly trick, that he would ask me in the name of Alex to do the things that I was unwilling to do.
I had to climb onto the bed with them asking again and again and started to play together.
“Cats, cats!” Leon mentioned it again when Alex had almost forgotten about it.
“Yes, Cats! Mommy hurry and play cats!”
I just couldn’t resist him but to pose like a cat, lay on my belly and head up. Meow!
I myself found the pose really dump and when I peaked Leon, he was giggling too.
Darn it!
He wanted to embarrass me deliberately.
While he raised his phone and was ready to shoot a picture, I took away his phone immediately.
He tried to get his phone back and both of us tangled with each other when suddenly his body fell on mine.
“Mommy and daddy are hugging!” Alex said in big surprise.
I wanted to move aside as I was a little shy, but Leon had this strong and big body and I couldn’t move at all.
The good thing was, he let go of me.
We played for a while before Alex got sleepy and wanted to sleep. Alex was sleeping between Leon and I, with Leon telling bedtime stories.
“Once upon a time, there was an uncle who got poisoned by someone and became blind. He couldn’t see anyone and every second he went through was in complete darkness, and the dawn never came…” Leon sounded especially attractive at night.
“What a poor uncle! He could neither watch games nor basketball.” Alex said.
“Yes, but the uncle didn’t give up, instead, he took a walking stick and learned to walk by himself though he would fall every time. He wasn’t familiar with how the blind people walked, nor could he estimate the distance between each object, but after a few days, he got used to it gradually. Then he began to learn braille. He couldn’t give up, as he knew, he would lose it all if he did.”
Leon paused and looked at Alex, who was already sound asleep.
This was how little kids were. For one moment they were talking but just a blink of an eye they already fell asleep. What a happy period of time!
“What happened to him later?” I asked lightly, and I knew he was telling his own story.
I was both interested and curious about his past, though I knew there’s a woman who was inevitable in his life. Nan Lin, the real Nan Lin.
“Alex is already asleep so we won’t continue the story. Just sleep.” Leon turned off the lights and the room got dark immediately.
Lying next to me was Alex’s cute and little body, lying next to him was my husband who had got me thinking all the time.
I couldn’t believe I finally had peace of mind and felt so secure and peaceful in my heart. I closed my eyes and soon fell asleep too.
Suddenly I was waken by a series of vibration. It was from Leon’s phone on the bedside.
The light of the phone was especially bright at night, I saw Leon taking the phone and walking outside quietly.
I somehow got up too and went to the door, wanting to know who he was talking to in the phone.
“Why? How come? You stay there and I’ll be right on my way.” Leon said.
I hurried back to my bed and pretended to be asleep.
Leon came in quietly, took his clothes and went out.
It didn’t take long before I heard the engine of his car being started. He went out, as expected.
I looked at my phone. It’s 2 A. M. Who would look for him at this time? What kind of emergency may need him to deal with?
Somehow I suddenly thought of Nan Lin.
Nan was still in hospital at the moment, could it have been her?
But Nan was totally fine the last time I visited her in the hospital, she should be out of the hospital soon.
If it hadn’t been Nan, then who could it have been? It must have been important enough to wake Leon in the middle of the night.
I thought for a long time but still couldn’t figure it out. It took me two hours for me to finally fall asleep again.
The sun was already up when I woke up and Alex already got up but sitting still by the pillow. Seeing that I woke up, he immediately said, “Where’s daddy?”
“Daddy had something important to do so he went out last night. Are you getting up now?” I said softly.
“Mommy, do you think daddy will leave us?”
I was shocked, “Why do you think so? No, he won’t leave us.”
Alex’s eyes got red at once, “I like daddy, I don’t want to lose daddy!”
I didn’t expect him to be so emotional and I felt so sorry for him, I just held him in my arms and it took me a long time to finally get him relaxed.
