Chapter 47

Book:Fated To Be His Mate Published:2024-6-2

“Urgh!” Alpha Damien groans in pain as he manages to sit up on the bed, holding his chest as it hurts badly. His health is getting worse with each day that passes by, and even after taking so many medications that were prescribed to him by the physician, none of them seem to work for him.
He glances at one of the physicians standing in front of him. He was the one that he asked to do the investigation, and seeing him today means that he must’ve gotten a piece of information that can help him get a clue about the whole thing that has been happening to him.
“Greetings, my lord,” he bows slightly and greets him.
“Have you been able to find anything?” He asks anxiously, ignoring his greetings, and the man nods his head.
“Yes, my lord. The poison… Has been in the food you have been taking. It didn’t just start the day you started feeling the pain, but it has been living inside you for quite some time now, killing your cells slowly, until they couldn’t take it anymore, and the pain started,” Hearing this, he slowly clenches his fists, staring into space. Who the hell dared to poison him? How dare that person tries to.
“The food?” He asks, to be sure of what he heard. He’s not trying to think anything stupid, but he can’t help thinking it anyway. He never eats from anyone else, except Cassie. And the maid that was serving him for some time when he suspended Cassie, he had always made sure that she tastes the food before he eats it, Cassie is the only one that he had never asked to taste the food before him.
“Yes, my lord. Do you need me to call all the maids in the castle?” The man asks.
“Yes. Assemble all of them, now!” He orders, standing up to his feet.
“Yes, my lord,” And with that, the man turns around and amble out of the room…
A few minutes later, the maids are all gathered in the large room as per the order of the alpha. Many of them panic as they await him. It’s the first time in so many years that they have been in the castle, that the alpha is going to summon them, and they can’t help getting panicked.
“What do you think is happening? The alpha has never done this before,” One of the maids whispers to her friend, with fear resounding in her voice.
“I don’t know, but I think it has to do with his health. I heard he was poisoned. It’s so pathetic. Who would’ve had the mind to hurt the alpha,” Her friend whined.
Moments later, a dead silence assumes the atmosphere as his scent and aura slowly fill the air. His thick footsteps are everywhere, sending shivers down their spine, and they can’t help staring away, for the fear of seeing those deadly eyes of his.
“Greetings, my lord,” They all greet him once he’s standing before them.
“I’ll say this once and I’m not going to repeat myself. Who amongst you dared poison my food?” He asks calmly, but his voice is so icy and scary.
They glance at each other, as their hearts sink into their stomach.
Seeing them silent, he speaks up again, “if I find out that any of you did that, I hope you know your fate… Guards!”
“Yes, my lord,” Three guards rush in.
“Search their rooms one after the other, and bring anything suspicious out there. I give you one hour to do that,” He instructs the guard.
“Yes, my lord,” They reply in unison, and with that, they turn around and walk out of the place.
Fifty minutes later, the guards return with nothing.
“Forgive me, my lord, but we couldn’t find anything,” They say to him, and he sighs softly. Who could’ve done that? Could it be that the person is not in the castle?
Turning around, he walks away disappointedly…
Cassie POV
“Who could’ve poisoned the alpha? What did he do to the person?” I ask myself for the umpteenth time as I toss on the bed. It’s midnight already, but I still can’t get some sleep. How am I supposed to be able to sleep, when I don’t even know how he’s feeling now?
“Urgh!” I groan as I sit up on the bed. Tilting my head to my side, there is Milo, sleeping beside Zoey on the bed, and I roll my eyes at them. They have become so close that Milo now prefers him to me.
I don’t know if what I’m about to do is right, but I’m worried about him, and I need to go see him. Yes, he asked me to give him some space, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t go see him, right?
Carefully, I stride out of the room and close the door gently behind me. I peek in the hallway to make sure that guards are not around as usual, but what was I expecting? They’re here and strolling around. I pray not to get caught, if not, then I’m done for.
I tiptoe down the hallway, making sure that I don’t attract attention to myself, knowing it’ll be the end of me.
After walking for what seemed like forever, I finally stop in front of his door, and I take a deep breath. It’s a good thing that the guards are not here, so I’m free.
‘Let’s not see each other for now, Cassie’ raising my hand to place a knock on the door, his words echo in my head, and I halt my hand on the way. As much as I’m worried about him and want to see him, I don’t want to do something that’ll piss him off and make him scold me. It’ll break my heart like never before if he scolds me.
Still contemplating whether to knock on the door or not, his voice sounds through my ears, pulling me back to reality.
“What are you doing?” Snapping my head backward, I realize that he’s standing behind me…
