The sound of the knock on the door pulls alpha Damien’s attention from the window, and he tilts his head to look at the door. It has been over a month since he and Cassie started seeing each other, and it has been the best days of his life. He no longer feels so lonely with her around him, and it’s quite fun when they hang out together. However, his health has been getting worse with each day that passes by, although he tries to hide it from Cassie so she won’t be worried about him. The investigation is still ongoing, but sadly, nothing has been found yet.
“Come in,” he finally ushers whoever is at the door in, and the door opens shortly, and Astrid walks in. Seeing Astrid, he sighs softly, turning his attention away. He has suddenly lost interest in every other woman ever since he started seeing Cassie. It feels as though he’s doing the wrong thing, and he feels irritated by the presence and the scent of other women around him, so he slowly stopped seeing them.
“Why are you here?” He asks icily, staring out of the window while having his fingers locked behind him.
Astrid stares at him with a sad expression on her face, and her heart wrenches in pain. She thought that one day he’ll fall in love with her, and she thought that one day, her dream of ending up with him will come true, but it seems like it was never going to happen, not when Cassie is around. Cassie’s presence has caused her nothing, but pain, and she can’t help wishing that he just kill her already, so they can go back to the way they used to be.
“My lord…” She pauses and walks over to him, wrapping her arms around his waist as she usually does to him.
“Astrid…”
“Can you just let me, please? Just this once,” She pleads with him while resting her head on his back, as a drop of tears slid down her cheek. How much she has missed this, how much she has missed this moment of peace and happiness. He was supposed to be his, they have been together all her life, she has fallen deeply in love with him, why would he choose to love someone else instead? What hurts more is the fact that she’s the daughter of a traitor. She deserves to die, she doesn’t deserve his mercy or love a bit, why is he doing this?
“I missed you, my lord… I missed us…” She whispers, and he finally unwraps her hands from his waist, turning around to face her afterward. Staring down at her, all he sees in her eyes is pain.
“Astrid…”
“Will you ask me to leave? It’s all my fault that I’m hurt, and I’m not trying to blame you… No, I won’t ever do that. I shouldn’t have fallen in love with you, but I did anyways… You were never mine, but I never stopped wishing and praying that things turn around, and we’ll suddenly be together. I thought you were going to…”
“Stop, Astrid,” He sighs briefly, throwing his head back while closing his eyes. He never wanted to hurt her. Although she may mean nothing to him, she was only his loyal concubine that satisfies his desires more than anyone else, but he still feels a tinge of guilt. Yes, in the past if he was going to settle down with any of his concubines, then he would’ve gone for her, but now, his heart belongs to someone else. His heart now belongs to another woman he never dreamt of ever meeting in his lifetime. His fate has been twisted, and although he knows that there’s a great danger ahead of him because of the decision he made, he doesn’t regret it, instead, he’s ready to face this danger and conquer it. He has made up his mind to be with the woman he loves forever.
“Why? Is it because of her? You want her so badly that you have suddenly forgotten what we used to share? Yes, I know I was nothing to you but a concubine… I don’t deserve your love, but all I ever wanted was to love you, even if it’s not returned to me. I…”
“Astrid…”
“Have you forgotten who she is? She is the…”
“The daughter of the traitor that poisoned my father to death, and ran away with his wife. The one I have been seeking vengeance on for all the years of my life… The one I have vowed to vent my vengeance on from his first to his third generation… The one I vowed not to spare anything related to him when I finally get my hands on him…” He cuts her off in almost a high-pitched voice. He runs his fingers through his hair frustratingly, turning his back to her.
“I know all of that. She is the daughter of a traitor, but because I love her… Everything has changed now. I have a problem with her father, and not her…”
“Are you doing this because you want to turn her against her father, or do you truly love her? Are you using her because you know she’s the only one that can end her father’s life, or do you genuinely love her?” She scoffs, and his eyes darken as anger rush through his veins. He has just been trying not to get angry, but she’s already pushing him beyond limit, and he won’t be able to control himself if he loses it.
“What? Am I saying the truth, huh? Come to think of it, he’s her father anyway. Have you thought of the strong bond between father and child? No matter how wicked and heartless parents are, their kids will always protect them at the expense of their lives. Don’t you think Cassie will do the same? And won’t you do the same if you were in her shoes?” She says to him, and he clenches his fists.
“I don’t mean to meddle into this, and don’t think I’m doing this for myself… This is just a reminder. The seed of a traitor is almost a traitor,” And with that, she turns around and strides out of the room, leaving him to ponder on her words…
