Chapter 43

Book:Fated To Be His Mate Published:2024-6-2

The breeze blows gently on his face as he stares at the sky. It’s already evening, and he’s supposed to be resting now, but his mind is not resting. He has been having a lot going on in his mind lately, and it’s driving him to the edge of craziness. Who poisoned him? Why would the person do that? Those are the questions he has been asking himself without any answer coming forth, and it’s already disturbing him.
He sighs briefly, closing his eyes. Two tiny arms wrap around him from behind, and he snaps his eyes open.
“I want to be left alone, Astrid,” He says to the person, not bothering to check who it is.
Cassie’s face drops sadly as she slowly pulls away from him, and bites his bottom lip. She feels her heart wrenches in pain and she slowly clenches her fists. Is he so attached to Astrid that he mistakes her for that bitch? She has never felt so angry in her life, but who is she to complain? She thought things has changed between them after he kissed her, but sadly, he has been avoiding her. At first, she thought that he was just trying to get himself together, but now it doesn’t seem like it.
Slowly, he turns around when he didn’t hear her speak, and he finds Cassie standing behind him with a sad expression on her face, instead of Astrid.
“What are you doing here?” He asks her coldly, glaring hard at her, while she gulps down nothing nervously. Seeing that look on his face, she feels her heart racing rapidly in fear. He looks extremely angry.
“Forgive me, my lord… I… I was…”
“Did I permit you to touch me?” He asks her calmly, yet in that cold voice that’s dark enough to send anyone to their early grave.
“Uhm… I’m sorry, my lord…”
“You don’t say that when I ask you a question. Did I permit you?” He thunders, and she flinches. Tears brim in her eyes as her body suddenly fidgets.
“No, you didn’t, my lord…” She stutters nervously, now shaking visibly.
“What audacity do you have to touch me? Because I kissed you… Is that why you now think that you can touch me anyhow you like it? Tell me!” He roars at her, and she flinches.
She turns her face away sadly as tears finally find their way out of her eyes.
“Get out… This minute,” He says coldly, turning his back to her, and without waiting for his next word, she turns around and storms out of the garden in tears.
Rushing out of the garden, she collided with Astrid and staggers back. She has been standing far away and watching everything that has been happening.
“Hey, keep it down. What’s wrong with you, huh?” Astrid rolls her eyes, blocking her way.
“Oh my… You’re crying? What happened? Did the alpha hurt you? Oh, that’s so sad and pathetic,” she mocks Cassie as the corner of her lips slowly twitches into a smirk.
“What do you want from me?” Cassie snaps at her, clenching her fists, and she smiles at her softly.
“Let’s just say that I’m a good Samaritan, trying to open your eyes to the reality you’ve turned blind eyes to…” She pauses and scoffs unbelievably.
“You see… I knew this would happen when he kissed you days ago. Don’t pull that surprised look, Cassie… I know everything. I mean, I belong here, so it’s a normal thing to know everything going on here, right?” She stops and tucks her hair behind her ear.
“Alpha Damien and I have been together almost for our lifetime. We have kissed multiple times, we’ve had sex countless times, and I’m not obsessed with him the way you are. I mean, he just kissed you, and didn’t say that he liked you, right? You’re not the first woman he’s going to kiss, and just like every other woman didn’t mean anything to him even after having sex with them… Who are you to think that you’ll be exempted?” She rolls her eyes, while Cassie stands staring at her with anger rushing in her vein. She wants to punch her right in the face, but she also thinks that won’t be necessary.
“Do I need to remind you of who you are, Cassie? You’re a slave… The daughter of a traitor, how many times do I have to say this to you?” She whispers into Cassie’s ear behind her.
“You can choose to listen to me or turn deaf ears. He will kill you sooner or later, so just save yourself the heartbreak and don’t try anything stupid with him. That’s my advice to you. Excuse me,” And with that, she flipped her hair back and catwalk away, leaving Cassie in tears…
A few minutes later in the garden…
She stares into space, crying heavily as she clenches her fists. It’s hard to get Astrid’s words off her head, and it hurts deeply. What was she thinking? How could she have let herself get deceived by the kiss? She’s so stupid to have thought that he will see her differently after the kiss.
“Meow! Meow!” Milo’s voice suddenly echoes in the garden, and she tilts her head to see the little cat beside her, rubbing its tail on her body, as it tries to console her.
“Milo… When did you get here?” She picks it up in her arms after she wipes her tears, smiling at it softly.
She tickles it softly while having a smile on her lips. For some reason, being with this little cat takes her burden away. It’s indeed a blessing to her.
“Will alpha Damien kill me eventually when he finds my father?” She asks out of the blue while staring into space. She has been trying not to think about it, but it hurts a lot even if she doesn’t. The thought of it keeps haunting her, she has fallen deeply in love with her, and it’ll be the saddest thing to have him hurt her. She’ll be pained, even in her grave…
