Chapter 14

Book:Fated To Be His Mate Published:2024-6-2

Cassie Robert…
It has been three days already, and these are the worst days of my life. I thought my life was a mess back at my father’s house, but now I know what pain is. The one I passed through back at my father’s house is nothing, life here is hell on earth.
After that day that I was taken from the courtroom or whatever they call it, the women that took me away, cut my hair short and now I’m looking like another person. According to them, the rule of their pack states that whenever a werewolf is demoted to an omega, if it’s a woman that has long hair, it’ll be cut short and if it’s a man, his hair will be shaved off. I’m still trying to convince myself about something, I’m not a werewolf. No sign in me shows that I am one of them. I’ll never forgive him if ever it turns out that I was being punished for nothing.
Guess who’s sleeping on the cold and dirty floor? Well, that’s me. I wonder why people are made to pass through this much pain. We are made to sleep in a house that’s built with woods and can be penetrated by cold. Every night, we freeze in there and pray for our dear lives, while that monster is in his room, sleeping comfortably.
A drop of tears slid down my cheeks as I stare at my reflection in the small mirror in my hand. I now look horrible because of my short hair. I have always loved my hair long and curly, but it’s now short with rough edges, all thanks to him.
The sound of the footsteps drawing close pulls my attention, and I quickly hide the mirror under my pillow. I quickly stand up and amble out of the room. It’s afternoon already and it’s almost time for lunch. I got back from my usual routine of cleaning the royal chambers a few minutes ago. Since I’ll only be eating once daily, I get to choose the time I wish to eat. Whether in the morning, afternoon, or evening. I have chosen to be served lunch today. Yesterday when I had breakfast, I almost passed out due to hunger. I won’t make that mistake again.
I collide with someone on my way out, and her food falls from her hand and empties on the dirty floor, sending a gasp out of my lips.
“You poured my food away…” Her voice sounds through my ear with pain resounding in it. She seems to be extremely hungry. Gosh! What have I done? Squatting down, I pack up the food, but it’s already messed up and can’t be eaten again. Even a dog will find it difficult to take the food in, considering how horrible it now looks.
I stand up to my feet and raise my gaze to see a young lady of about the same age as me. She has tears in her eyes. The food seems to be the last hope she has.
“Uhm… I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to do that, OK…” I try to explain to her, but her tears finally trickle down her cheeks, and I sigh, running my fingers through my hair. I need to do something.
“Hold on. I’ll be back…” I rush out of the house and head to where they’re serving food.
“Hey! What do you think you’re doing?” The woman in charge of serving food asks me, and I pull a puzzled look. I haven’t been served yet, what’s she talking about?
“I’m here to get my food. I postponed my food till lunchtime,” I reply to her, and she scoffs.
“There’s not much food here, you should wait till dinner time,” she says to me sarcastically, and I scoff. Is she being serious right now? What’s she talking about?
“You can’t say that…”
“And when did you start telling me what to do, huh? Are you out of your mind?” She glares at me with anger resounding in her voice, and my face drops sadly. I better not make trouble here if I don’t want to end up being punished.
Turning around, I walk back into the log cabin with a heavy heart. What have I done to deserve this treatment? Is this not worse than death? Stepping into the hut, I stop abruptly as the girl I mistakenly poured her food away just now welcomes me. I wanted to collect the food and give it to her, but I didn’t get it. How am I going to explain this to her?
“Uhm…”
“It’s fine. I understand…” She smiles at me weakly.
“Anyway, my name is Zoey Ryder. Can we be friends?” She smiles at me, and I narrow my eyes. Don’t blame me, I’m shocked. I mean, I have been ignored by everyone ever since I stepped in here. Nobody wanted to relate with me, and it was shocking that someone suddenly wants to become my friend.
“Sure… I’m Cassie,” I smile back at her. She is nice enough to want to be my friend, I shouldn’t let her down because of my insecurities, right? Who knows, maybe she will be able to help me out with the questions that I want to ask.
“Cassie… Cassie…” The masculine voice coming from outside chants my name, and I glance at her confusingly, wondering who that could be.
“Who’s that?” I ask her in a whisper as if she’s outside and knows who it is.
“That sounds like one of the palace guard’s voices. You should go before they come here to get you themselves. It seems like the alpha sent them to come to get you,” my heart misses a beat and I gulp down nothing as waves of fear spark through me. The thought of meeting him frightens me and freaks me out. Why is he calling me? What does he want from me this time around? I cleaned his chambers this morning and made sure that I left no trace of dirt, what could be my offense this time around?
“You should go already,” she urges me, and I finally walk out of the hut. Stepping out of the hut, behold, it’s two of the guards. I hope they’re not here to drag me to the castle.
“Follow me,” one of them says in a commanding tone, and I almost scoff. They both start walking away while I trail behind them. I just wish that I can disappear into thin air now. This feels so awkward…
