Cassie Robert
My heart races rapidly as I stare down at the floor. My body feels so weak and my head feels heavy. I have many thoughts conflicting in my mind.
The courtroom is suddenly overpowered by silence, which adds to my fear. All these years of living in pain, I have always wished that I die, but at this point that I see my doom standing in front of me and staring back at me, I feel so scared. I am scared, not because of death, but because of the tortures that accompany it. For the seed of a traitor, as he called my father, I don’t think he would want to grant me an easy death without making me go through pain.
Taking me down memory lane, my heart hurts deeply as the thought of my father spurs through me. All he ever brought to me was pain, I never got the love I deserved from him and now he’s going to be the cause of my death? How wicked of him.
“I have an announcement to make…” His cold and domineering voice finally comes on, and waves of fear spark through me as I feel my heart skips a million times. Is he going to sentence me to death now?
An awkward silence assumes the air afterward, and I bet he’s doing that intentionally, knowing that I will be scared to death. His dark and intimidating aura keeps radiating up the air, and just that alone is already giving me high blood pressure. As much as I want to raise my gaze and look at him, I know that’ll be the worst mistake of my life. Even if I’m not looking at his face, I know what his expression will be like now.
“Twenty-four years ago, the alpha, my late father was poisoned to death by someone that has been hiding all these years…” He pauses, and I feel my soul leaving my body slowly as I await his next words. I know this won’t end well.
“What! Is she the one?”
“She should be killed if she is,”
“How dare she hurt the alpha!”
“She deserves no mercy, she should be killed,”
“Alpha Damien won’t spare her, I know that,” I keep hearing whispers, and those alone are driving me crazy. They’re adding to my fear.
“For many years, I have been investigating the death of the alpha, and have been hoping to know who the mastermind was, but all these years, the traitor was able to hide himself and his family…” He pauses for the second time, and although I’m not looking at him, I can feel his gaze on me, making me feel uneasy. He should just quit with this and order me to be killed already. He shouldn’t inflict fear on me and just do what he has to do.
“However, after a thorough investigation, I found out the killer years ago, to be the late alpha’s beta, Nicolai Vatik. Nicolai, after he poisoned my father to death, he proceeded to run away with the then Luna, my father’s wife, who was his lover. For many years, I have been searching for Nicolai, with the promise not to spare him whenever I lay my hands on him. However, he have been able to cover his scent all this while and I couldn’t get a hold of him, but I found out that he lives in the outskirt of Europe, and changed his identity. He changed his name to Robert, and covered his scent…” Hearing this, my eyes slowly widen in shock. Now everything is becoming clear to me. My father was the beta of this pack? I’m so screwed! They won’t spare me.
“I want to present to you today, the daughter of that traitor, Cassie Robert…” His last words come with so much power and anger.
“She’s the seed of a traitor and should be killed…”
“She doesn’t deserve to live…”
“She’s a traitor!” They suddenly start protesting, and I sulk on my lips.
They suddenly went silent, and my fear increases. I anticipate what he’s going to say again.
“While the hunt for Nicolai is ongoing, I hereby demote Cassie Vatik to the post of an omega. He should be punished severely for her father’s crime, while the search for him is still ongoing. While other omegas are eating two square meals, she should be given one. Henceforth, she is in charge of cleaning the alpha’s chambers and the study. She must report to duty as early as 4am. Failure to do all of these, she will be given fifty strokes of cane with hard labor on the pack farmland. The final judgment will be passed on she and her father after he’s been found,” tears streams down my cheeks as I stare at the ground, frozen on the spot. The punishment is as good as dead. I won’t come out of it alive. Why won’t he just kill me instead? Why make me go through this, knowing I will still be killed later?
All my life, I have been through pains and I was used to it. Although I knew that it’ll get to some point that I won’t have to suffer anymore, I knew that one day I’ll get out of the pain and live a happy life, but I never imagined that my life will take another turn, I never imagined that my life will become worsen. I don’t know whether to pray for them to get my father quickly so my life can be ended along with his, or pray that they don’t, so my life can be longer. At this point, I don’t know what to wish for anymore.
“Take her away,” his cold and domineering voice sounds through my ears, and two arms suddenly grab me from behind. This time, the arms don’t feel like they belong to the guards. They feel feminine. They pull me to my feet, and I finally raise my gaze to meet the alpha’s. He’s staring at me with resentment on his face. I’m not the one that killed his father, why would he think of punishing me like this?
They finally turn around and walk me out of the courtroom…
