I looked at the money and shook my head.”Aunt Fanning, you’re terrific. You are ready to frame me anytime and anywhere.”
I called her Aunt Fanning, which embarrassed Inez Fanning.
When I didn’t respond, Marlin Carter came up and slapped me in the face!
Suddenly, my eyes were blooming and my ears were buzzing.
I heard Marlin Carter swear at me angrily, “We gave birth to you and raised you for three years. You stole our money and call us that?”
“June Carter!”Molly Carter pretended to come and help me. She said to Marlin Carter, “Dad, June Carter is a former convict now. It’s hard to find a job. No company wants her. She must be desperate.”
I sneered and pushed Molly Carter away.”Stop pretending.”
“June Carter.”
“Look at it. You helped her and she didn’t appreciate it. She has no conscience!”
Inez Fanning pulled Molly Carter to her side.
“It’s you…”
“Enough!”
When Marlin Carter raised his hand to hit me again, Shery Carter next to him spoke.
She waved to me and said in a kind voice, “Come on, June, sit here with me.”
“Mom, you can’t be fooled by her anymore!”
Marlin Carter saw that Sherry Carter’s attitude towards me had not changed at all in this situation. He was very angry.
I listened to Sherry Carter and sat on the sofa next to her.
She touched my face and asked with concern, “Does it hurt?”
I nodded and then asked her, “Grandma, do you believe me?”
Only Sherry Carter was close to me in this family.
“You are my granddaughter. I believe you.”
She took my hand in her and patted it.
Everything was like before as if nothing had happened.
Inez Fanning was anxious.”Mom, she hurt Molly many times. We have evidence!”
“Mom, it doesn’t matter.”
Molly Carter held Inez Fanning’s hand. Her eyes were a little red.
Her acting skills were really growing.
“I haven’t seen June for a long time. I want to talk to her. You all go back.”
Sherry Carter asked them to go back.
Inez Fanning and Marlin Carter were shocked. Inez Fanning stared at me as if she were going to kill me.
Then they mumbled a few more words and Sherry Carter asked Mary to send them away.
When they left, Sherry Carter pulled me and said, “June, they hid the whole thing. I just learned about your prison sentence. You have been wronged.”
Her eyes turned red.
I believed Sherry Carter really loved me.
I took Sherry Carter’s arm, put my head on her shoulder and shook my head.”It’s all over, grandma. I’ll try to start a new life…”I paused.”I was wronged.”
I must say that.
“I know. If I had known about it earlier, you would not have been in prison! I don’t care much about what’s going on outside now and I don’t know much about it.”
Sherry Carter patted me on the shoulder.
I could hear the remorse in her voice.
Later, we talked a lot more. She asked me about my work and I told her about my recent work at Daniell Cook’s company.
We talked till evening.
Sherry Carter asked me to stay for dinner. At dinner, she asked me, “Do you need to tell James Jessop’s grandson that you won’t go back to dinner?”
Her words made me hesitate for a moment. I chose to lie.”No, he’s on business these days.”
Sherry Carter looked at me and said nothing.
When the meal was over, she said to me, “Actually, I know everything about Sean Jessop and Molly. Molly is smart but she can’t do things perfectly. Everything is done by Sean Jessop, right?”
“Grandma, no…”
I didn’t want Sherry Carter to worry about my marriage anymore.
I didn’t expect her to find out all these things after she knew I was in prison.
After saying that, Sherry Carter shook her head.”James Jessop doesn’t believe you. But you are my granddaughter. I know you and believe you!”
She took out a file bag and a key from the cabinet and put the key in my hand.”After the last thing, I didn’t take your share dividend in my hand anymore. I thought you went to study abroad. I didn’t know when you would come back. In order not to depreciate, I bought a house with this money this year. Live in this house. Don’t live in Sean Jessop’s house.”
“Grandma, I…”
“Take it. You’re my granddaughter. Carter Family is not as good as Jessop Family but we don’t have to bow to them!”
Sherry Carter knew I was going to refuse so she put the key in my hand.
She took out a card from her bag and said it contained the rest of the dividend.
I repeatedly refused but Sherry Carter gave me the card.
I stayed until 10 p. m. that day.
When I was leaving, Sherry Carter asked the servant to take a box out of the warehouse and gave it to me.
I opened it. It was actually my computer at college.
There were also some albums.
She said she had asked Carter Family’s servants to watch out when Marlin Carter threw them away. She thought these things were useful to me so she left them for me.
I was very grateful to Sherry Carter.
At the same time, I knew that there were spies in Marlin Carter’s servants.
I left with my suitcase.
I went home and tried to turn on the computer. But I found it seemed to be broken.
I had no choice but to put the computer down.
On the weekend, I got a call from Sherry Carter urging me to move.
I didn’t have much luggage. I tidied up my usual clothes and my computer and tablet. I opened the property certificate and looked at the address on it. I was shocked.
York No. 1.
York No. 1 was the best and most expensive area in York.
The community was surrounded by water on three sides and the property was first-class.
If it hadn’t been for my name on the real estate certificate, I would have thought Sherry Carter had made a mistake.
When I took a taxi to the entrance of the community, the security guard looked at me and said rudely, “Leave here, this community is not allowed to sell.”
“I’m the owner. I just moved in today.”
I explained.
“Are you the owner? Which building do you live in?”Security guards were arrogant in such high-end neighborhoods.
He looked at me as if he had decided that I was a saleswoman. He waited proudly for me to be exposed.
As I was about to put down my luggage to show him the real estate certificate, there was a gentle and steady voice behind me.”I proved that she was the owner.”
I turned around and looked at the man standing behind me with a little acquaintance…
I soon thought about it. Although I was reluctant, I called him”Uncle Jessop.”
